There are generally eight known official Gyms in core series regions that include Gyms. The Gym guide routinely stands at the entrance of the Gym, giving the player advice about the type advantages corresponding to the signature type of the Gym Leader. These Trainers cannot be battled after the Gym Leader has been defeated, with the exception of those found in Driftveil Gym B2 W2. Gyms are vital to a Pokémon Trainer's journey they may have to travel far and wide, as there can only be one Gym per city. However, there are also Gyms that do not practice this, such as Viridian Gym or Cinnabar Gym.
